Bellissima bei tempi

Thank you for sharing.. Me and my family left Italy in 1971 from Genova on the Galileo Galilei bound to Australia ,as an 8 year old boy it was a trip of a life time. In 1974 we left Australia on the Galileo Galilei heading back to Italy and the trip was 33 days which took us through the Panama Canal. In January 1975 we left Italy once again on board the Galileo Galilei heading back to Australia when off the west coast of Africa the ship ( 13 January 1975 ) the ship struck a reef and i can vividly recall the drama on board. Black diesel nafta started filling the tourist class swimming pool, the crew were running around and looking over the side of the ship which you could easily see the trail of black diesel nafta. Next day we woke up and we were in the port of Dakar ( i read somewhere that Galileo was diverted to Monrovia but i know for a fact that it wasn't Monrovia but it was Dakar ) tied up at the industrial dock. We were in Dakar for 2 days waiting for the divers from Lloyd Triestino to assess the damage. Then we went back to Genova and Lloyd Triestino put us up in Rome for the night and next day boarded a 747 to Melbourne.. I miss the beautiful ship..

1st wonderful cruise was from Miami to Cozumel on the Galileo. Perfecto! Recall the darkened dining room with many Baked Alaskas lit on fire with sparklers and paraded gingerly by staff. (There was also a popular Kung Fu video game that had a long line to play) Good times. Thanks for the memories.

I travelled twice on the Marconi from Naples to Perth, Australia in 1967 and 1973. What a wonderful crew and ship! In 1973 during the oil crisis the stabilisers were turned off to save fuel. Rounding the Cape of Good Hope was a roller coaster ride (the Suez was closed)!

Mia mamma arrivo' in Australia sulla Galileo Galilei in 1964. Se non mi sbaglio, arrivo' sulla vigilia di Natale. Sono molto felice che lei abbia creato questo video. Grazie.

I travelled from Sydney to Naples with my grandfather in 1977 on the Galileo Galilei. I was 11 and it was the Galileo's last voyage from Australia to Europe. I never knew it then, but this trip has turned out to be the most beautiful memory of my life. Thank you for posting as all my photographs were destroyed in the Sydney 1984 floods. I wonder where Maria (she was a passenger and ended up being the Italian Newsreader on the ship's TV channel) Vince, Fredo and Antonio are today. Sorry we had an argument Bernard.

Thank you pinco pallino! I travelled on the Galileo from Fremantle on a world cruise destined for Italy in 1972. Many memories...

In 63 we emigrated to Australia from Europe on the previous liner called the MS Aurelia..And took this Marconi back and forth to and from Europe for holidays...I remember stops in Fremantle,The Suez Canal,Port Said then on to the Mediterranean sea..then when the Suez was closed the voyage went the long way around Africa,from Cape Town to Teneriffe Canary Islands and on to the Straights of Gibraltar to the Mediterranean..and just to think this all took 30 days to complete one way in some of the roughest seas imaginable.

Travelled on the Galileo Galilei in 1975 from Genova to Auckland. Still have the ships newspaper, menu etc. but unfortunately lost all contact with fellow passengers.

Hey!!..what memories! I came to Australia on board of Guglielmo Marconi in 1967 from Piraeus to Sydney. We had to take the long way around Africa as the Israelis and Arabs decided to have a 'party' near the Suez canal. In 1974 I took a return trip to Europe, again on the Marconi and returned from Genoa on the Galileo. The trip to Europe took us from Sydney to Aucland and then, Suva, Tahiti, Acapulco, the Panama canal, Curacao island, Lisbon, Malaga, Malta, Messina and Piraeus! Fantastic! Wonderful ships, great crews and lot's of Italian hospitality and fun, including dancing the Tarantella on one of the decks! I still remember the Italian announcements when the ship got to a port: "...attenzione, attenzione prego!...Tutti signorie passengeri .... etc. etc. " Many thanks Signore Pallino for this wonderful return to the past!
